Japanese Vs Chinese Car Batteries

Car Battery – Japan vs China

Most of the vehicles are usually come with rechargeable batteries. The batteries which can be charged through electric power can be used for various purposes. Such rechargeable batteries are referred to as SLI batteries. SLI stands for ‘starting – lightening – ignition’. This technical term is enough to specify its functions and why these batteries are used in vehicles.

Nearly all SLI batteries use lead acid.  Batteries with lead acid are popular owing to their surge current capacity. SLI batteries are mostly used for generating high power within a short time. You need such high power when you want to start your car or ignite the engine. As soon as the engine is started, the alternator starts recharging the batteries. Thus, the load of head lights & other electronic tools gets shared.

Difference between Japanese and Chinese Car Battery

The leading countries that manufacturer such car batteries are Japan and China. However, there is lot of difference in quality and specifications of the batteries manufactured in these countries. If we look at the price comparison, we will find that car batteries from China are available at different prices. This is mainly because they focus on manufacturing a wide variety of batteries.

1. Car Batteries – Price Difference

The prices of batteries vary depending on their charge densities. If the battery‘s charge density is high then it can provide larger volume of battery power. Therefore, customers, who often face problems like battery failure, use batteries with high charge density.

You can find various Chinese brands of car batteries like FNG, Booster, Satis and Eastar that are available at low prices.  Whereas Japanese brands like Volta, POWERGOR, AGS and Koyosonic are popular for their durability & charge density.

Majority of Japanese lead acid batteries make use of best quality lead oxide plating & electrodes. This increases the life of the batteries and also makes them fit for stable usage. Japan is one of the top countries which holds the technology of manufacturing conventional car batteries. However, high quality of Japanese batteries also increases their price.

2. Car Batteries – Quality difference

Lead acid batteries of car include the lead oxide plates or electrodes which are dipped in solution of water/acid electrolyte having 65/35 ratio. The electrolyte concentration is equally important to decrease the battery charge time. Thus quality of batteries also depends on the quality of electrolyte used in batteries. Practically the discharge of conventional lead acid batteries should be 85% of its total capacity.

It is found that the car batteries of Chinese brands are not as much heat resistant as those from Japan. It is also found that these batteries lose their electrolytes at very fast rate. The lack of thermal résistance further decreases the level of battery discharge. Even the Chinese conventional lead acid batteries do not meet the criteria of discharging up to 85% of its total capacity. Many Chinese brands have focused on creating different qualities with price variations under the same brand name.

Why Japanese Car Batteries are Superior?

If we consider the quality of Japanese car batteries, we will see that they have maintained their quality. All Japanese car battery brands have maintained the standard of their batteries. They have focused on producing single brand with high quality. They have maintained the charging & discharging cycles of batteries with pure & exact electrolyte concentrations. That is why you find Japanese batteries are extra heat resistant and do not lose their electrolyte levels. This assures quality and also need not require frequent checking of battery electrolyte levels.

The main requirement of the customer is long life of car batteries.  Car battery manufacturers who are able to provide batteries with high charging & discharging cycles enjoy popularity. And, precisely because of these reasons Japanese car batteries are perceived better than Chinese car batteries.
